Kathmandu, Aug 29: Leader of the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, Bhishma Raj Angdembe, met Prime Minister Balendra Shah and drew the government's attention to the matter of rescue and relief for the Bhotekoshi flood survivors.
During a meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister in Singha Durbar today, leader Angdembe submitted a nine-point memo to the government with recommendations for rescue and relief after returning from an on-site inspection of the flood-affected areas of Dhungebazar, Devighat and other areas in Nuwakot.
Stating that the rescue work being done by the Nepal Army is commendable, leader Angdembe demanded to form and mobilize separate helicopter rescue units for Rasuwa and Nuwakot. He also demanded that roads and bridges be immediately put into operation, the blocked routes of Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading be cleared and traffic resumed, and that bailey bridges be installed to replace at least seven of the more than 19 damaged bridges. 
He demanded that transportation arrangements be made for the rescued citizens and transportation arrangements to take the citizens brought to a safe place to Kathmandu as needed. 
The memo states that special attention should be paid to the treatment of the injured and senior citizens, and that sufficient beds should be provided for senior citizens by arranging necessary oxygen, medicines and health workers for the injured at the Nuwakot District Ayurveda Center.
Leader Angdembe expressed his readiness to cooperate and coordinate to that end, while demanding that the rescue, relief and rehabilitation be expedited by keeping the lives of citizens as the top priority in difficult times of disaster, according to his secretariat.
